The best time to visit the French Riviera is June or September. The month decides more than the weather: it decides which boats sail, when the palace opens and which town is full. If you are buying French Riviera tickets for set dates, start with what runs.
The Riviera is sunny for most of the year, so you rarely lose a whole day to rain. What changes for you is what is open. The palace in Monaco opens only from spring to mid-autumn. The sunset boat sails from April to October, and the Beaulieu solar boat all year.
Three events fill whole towns: the lemon festival in Menton, the film festival in Cannes and the Grand Prix in Monaco. Book around them if you want quiet, or book early if you want to be there. The road days need no calm sea, so you can take one in any month.

Expect 28 °C by day and 21 °C at night in Nice, 17 mm of rain on about 2 days, and 323 hours of sun. The warmest month, and thunder is likelier than in July. If you want a food walk or a boat, book it early.

The Grand Prix closes two of Monaco's paid doors. The lemon festival and the film festival close nothing, but you will find rooms scarce while they run.
Each season suits a different trip. Pick the one that matches what you want to do, and what you can put up with.
If you want the boats, pick May to September. If you want the villages and the museums, any month works for you.
