The set opens over Nice: the curve of its bay from a flowering hillside, then a tiled dome above the Old Town roofs. It follows the coast east, the way the boats and the road days go: a harbour town from the water, a wooded cape from the hills, and the stone lanes of Èze. Then comes the Rock of Monaco, and Menton's ochre old town above its beach at the Italian end.

After a sea cave at the foot of a cliff, it turns west: the ramparts of Antibes, the palm-lined seafront at Cannes, a sailing boat off a pine-covered island, and a walled village inland, Saint-Paul-de-Vence on its ridge.
